I just got a free 93 Ranger 4.0 with the A4LD trans, 2wd. Runs fine, but, well, there's no transmission action at all. Whining in forward, whining in reverse, won't move an inch. The fluid level is fine, and it's still red (which probably means PO tried to fix a problem with fluid).
I have no idea about the history, but just want to start with a decent diagnosis. Sure, it's most likely toast, but want to eliminate anything simple just in case. What's the best thing to start with?
I've done lots of car work, but no transmissions, so this is fairly new.
Oh, there's no flashing o/d light either. I've been digging around here on the forums, but this answer has eluded me. Thanks! Marc
