No heat. And cant control def to vent setting

I have a 02 xlt. It blows out cool/warm air. Not overheating or anything. And i cant change it from the vents to defrost or feet. Its stuck on windshield defrost all time. Thanks.


Is it hard to do a thermostat? Thanks.

Just did a thermostat a couple weeks ago. Very easy. Three screws and it's out, replace, put screws back on. I believe there's a hose connected to it but anyway you'll see it. Expect coolant to spill out too

ps. I'm assuming you have the 4.0L, because that's how it was on mine

mine was the heater ball valve, very easy to replace or fix. passenger side of engine exhaust manifold middle, you'll see an actuator and valve.

mine was stuck shut, so no heat, yours might be just open enough for some fluid to get through there are pictures on the forum look for no heat thread

My neighbor had to replace one of the door actuators in the heater box for a similar issue.

When the vacuum source to the selector switch is lost (no vacuum) the vent doors will all default to closed except the defrost door. Is that what you have? Your post is a little confusing. Here's some info if that's what is wrong:
