No Idle at Start

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT 2WD 4.6 l V8 with 125,000 miles. Sometime when I start the vehicle it will start and then right away die. I can start it and hold my foot on the gas pedal for about a minute and then it will idle. It seems like it needs tio be warmed up before it will idle. This does not happen but once a week. Any suggestions on what may be causing this?

Definately sounds like the IAC especially with your mileage, been through it with a few Fords.

I'm actually having the same problem with mine. I also have a check engine light on and have had the code read and its P1400, which i was told is the EGR Valve or the Sensor. Would a bad EGR valve cause it to stall or do you think its the IAC?

I think there is a outside chance that the EGR could cause a problem if it is stuck open at start up (its supposed to be closed), but its also likely that you could have the problem with the EVP sensor and the IAC. The symptoms described in the OP are classic for a problem with the IAC. Also, the IAC will usually not set a code.

I looked up the description for P1400. It is a problem with the EVP sensor which feeds back the EGR valve position to the PCM. The code indicates a problem with the sensor or with the wiring between the sensor and the PCM.
