Well, unfortunately, while i was mowing today, my keys ended up in the yard and my mower ate them/threw them everywhere, i found some of my more important keys, got the one that opens my door, but have not been able to find my ignition key...does anybody know a way i could get my ex to start without it? i wont be able to get an ignition cylinder till at least Friday and i gotta drive to work, but only two days this week. Its a 96 4.0 OHV. I know it's a long shot but i figure maybe somebody might know something or a way i can get this to work temporarily lol.

isn't it the same key???? my door and ignition are the same on all my fords (escape and explorer).

Not on mine, i have a separate door and ignition key, one looks a little longer than the other, cant remember which, i thought i should have just one also, but i bought it three years ago and just been using both with no problems till earlier this evening.

96 should share the same key for the door and ignition. Best bet is to get a locksmith to cut you a key

That's what i figured, but it had 260k on it when i got it, so it probably was replaced at some point before i got it, anybody know what it would cost to get a new key? I'm kinda broke until Thursday night lol Thanks for all the help so far guys.

it was probably re-keyed at some point.
