Ok since my cousin is to lazy to make a account I did to ask a few ?'s A little history is I know the in and outs on gm's but fords tend to get on my nerves. Though I will still work on them. A little history on the explorer is he got it like 3 years ago where it didn't run bad but had plans to fix it up and put a v8 in it. Shortly after he had the rust holes fixed and changed the color from the faded blue to black with blue pearl ghost flames. So the body is in the good now. It has issues in the motor department though. As in he changed his mind on the v8 swap.

What I know is it doesn't have a lick of power. Well sort of does now after the past few days messing with it. The mods it has is the cat's removed into 2.5 into a single in dual outlet I believe 2 1/4 at 45's. Then a cold air intake (That we just put on I will get to this part later on).

As for mileage I think it has up around 220k on it where as I can tell it doesn't look to be touched. Mileage right now is a 180k though as when he turns his subs on the mileage goes backwards. Gears I don't know right off. It is auto with a different tranny as he broke I believe it was the input shaft off on the stock one. Couldn't tell you the year it is out of but does have a new converter. Along with it is the 4.0 and auto.

Now to the issues doesn't have no power, was over heating, smells like it is running a bit rich, with a hint of a sweet smell (I know what the smell is but can't say it is it or not as it doesn't do it all the time) with the cold air intake it doesn't want to shift up top. It sort of acts like the motor is running out of power before it shifts or fuel. Also running a filter adaptor with the maf before the filter just causes it to bog and not go above 25mph. Move the maf further back in the intake and it is fine.

As in the no power up hill it did get 40 to the floor on a slight grade. Won't spin a tire worth a crap just bogs with the stock wheels or the what I call the wigger 18's. Not my style :) O and the other issue when it is hot if you shut it off it won't start sometimes if it does it just acts like it floods. No missing but has a rough idle. With a little surging and stalling(fixed the stalling issue now I think).

Things that we have did/replaced.
Coil a few times ( I believe this was the issue of not starting when hot as a bit of cool water on the coil it would fire up fine. So to fix the issue we spaced the coil up off the bracket so it wouldn't heat soak as bad)
Clutch for the fan (Believe to have fixed the over heating as it wasn't kicking in so far good)
Fpr (Haven't checked the fuel pressure yet as I need to find my adapter for the fords)
Fuel filter
o2 sensor long story short ran seafoam in it the other day and killed the bosch in it some how to where it was running so rich and shooting fireballs. New one fixed the issue. Along with picked up mpg and power up hill. It now hits 50-55 up the little grade hill to his house.
Throttle cable mod and adjusted the kick down cable.
Put new plugs and wires on after the rich issue gapped a hair smaller than stock which they are at .050.
Adjusted the throttle stop screw as on a cold start it would rev up a bit then come straight to 600rpms or die. Looked like someone played with the screw as it wasn't sticking out at all. I didn't measure the tps but adjusted it open to the point the iac could control the idle.

Now there is no check engine light or codes in any of the tests. We also reset the computer and he drove it for two days after changing the above stuff. Before pulling codes. I am thinking a issue with the maf as I see some you guys running maf adaptors fine. His is a no go with it or low fuel pressure. Going to check the intake gaskets later today. Leaks oil at the top of the motor from the valve covers and looks like the back of the intake. Doesn't burn oil or anything so not sure if the motor is original. I don't think it has low compression but we can check it. When we pulled the plugs the middle on the driver side has built up white residue a bit up in the plug but all were nice and tan. Any idea's? Sorry for the long post but I figured it was good to post all the info in one instead of carrying it over 20.
