I have a 2001 XLT V6 with 45k and the power locks no longer operate on my rear door (hatch). From what I've been able to gather it's probably the power lock solenoid, right? Any ideas on what Ford would charge to fix? I'm not a "do-it-yourself" kind of person (with cars, that is) unless it involves a screwdriver, and I think this is a little more complex than that. Thanks!

The actuator cost approx $70 from the Ford dealer. I'm guessing they would charge between 1/2 to 1 hour labor to replace it in the rear hatch. I did mine myself. It isn't super difficult, but you have to drill out the rivet that fastens it to the hatch to remove the actuator.

Here is the procedure for replacing the actuator. You can substitute a button head machine screw and a nylon locknut for the heavy duty rivet; that way you don't need the special rivet tool.

Here is the procedure to remove the trim panel. There are four drawings to show the details:

Dude before you replace anything go back there and get someone to flick the locks and make sure it's not working, not just the rods all bent up.You will hear it click if it's still good.
