New to the forums. Have had my 2013 Sport for a few days. Love it! But today I just went to put stuff from my '02 GMC Envoy in it (trailer hitch, jumper cables, etc) and it looks like there are no storage compartments? Really? This is my 1st disappointment with this vehicle. Am I not seeing a latch or something? I'm really considering removing the dinky spare and putting it in there, if I wasn't sure Murphy's Law would bit me in the ass.

My envoy had a nice well under the cargo floor. It will look idiotic to have this just sitting on the floor of the cargo space. I know there is some space against the riser of the 3rd row in the back, but there isn't much room when the seats rotate. It looks like there should be a ton of space in the sides of those overly large side panels. I know one side is the subwoofer, but come on, it's not that big. There is space there, i can see it! Shame on Ford.

nope. dont think there is. had the same observations

This annoyed me as well. I just need a little spot to put a first aid kit and tire inflator. If I leave them on the floor in the cargo area, I have to move them out of the way every time I put the 3rd row seats up or down. Not having ANY storage compartments in the cargo area is definitely a bummer.

On my XLT there is a space in the right rear side, under the window (on your EX this is where your subwoofer is) . This is where I put my trailer hitch that I have wrapped in foam to keep it from banging around. The space under the left side window is taken up by a self contained Air conditioning and heating unit for the back seats, that is controlled by the panel at the rear of the center console. If you fold the second seat fwd you can put stuff in the 3rd row foot well area. I wrapped my jumper cable around the spare tire. Plenty of room there for that!

This is why it pays to research and thoroughly check out the vehicle before purchase. Nothing worse than buyers remorse!

I noticed the same about it..but I bought anyway

Store stuff in the 3rd row foot well, unless you use the 3rd row often.

Same thing with the limited...that side space that is storage in lesser models is instead filled with a speaker. I put my first aid kit and jumper cables under the driver's seat but didn't have much room for the rest.

I was able to get jumper cables in with the spare wheel (looping around the ouside of the wheel), most other stuff we store under the false floors between third and second rows w/ the row stowed. If we need to use the third row we move that stuff to the back while we're using it.

I use the spare tire well: have a long set of booster cables wrapped around the mini spare and a tow strap w/hooks rolled up in one of the corner spaces at the rear of the tire well. I have a reflector triangle, flashlight, tire repair kit, bungee straps, screwdriver and pliers in two ballistic nylon bags with velcro closures and velcro strips on the outside that live under the folding 3rd row seats. these stick to the floor so dont move around - but are easy to pull out when changing the seat configuration.

I also have 2 fire extinguishers a 2.5Lb powder mounted vertically on the left side just inside the hatch opening and a 2.5Lb Halon mounted horizontally on the back cross-member under the hatch opening and just above the tire well cover. You'd be surprised at what you can fit in when you get creative.

Definitely no buyers remorse. I love the vehicle and would buy it again in a heartbeat. Just surprised that there isn't even a small storage compartment.

I will just get a small bag to put it all in so that I can move it around easily and it looks neat. I've seen them at Costco with everything in them for around $30 so might just grab one of those.

I just bought a 2013 Limited today. One of my only disappointments while considering the purchase was the lack of storage compartments in the back. My 2006 XLT has nice space underneath the rear cargo area for my tool kit, first aid kit, some water and MREs, fire extinguisher, etc. I guess I'll have to get creative with storage. I'll check out the space in the third row foot well that you guys are mentioning.

Alan, do you have pics of those fire extinguishers by chance? How exactly did you fasten them?

Hey everyone,

I joined the explorer group getting a 2016 Ford Explorer Limited recently. I been lurking here for awhile reading up on some aftermarket changes. I had a couple questions for everyone after searching and reading some of the threads

For some reference I had lifted trucks, SUV's, and Jeeps.

Has anyone found a good way to store things like first aid kit out of sight like first aid kits, jumper cables ,etc? I can't seem to hide them from view especially with the third row?

Thank you all for your replies!

Has anyone completely removed the front valance that hangs down with pictures? I've seen the trimmed pictures which don't look to bad, but I been trying to find the police explorer valance?

And last questions! Has any more people lifted their 2016+ explorers withe Traxda 2" lift? I've seen the SEMA one that was posted on here, but it's hard to judge difference in height since those wheels and tire are different.

I do a lot of hiking, camping, offroading (I don't offroad to much anymore-too many people sitting on trails) and it was a little embarrassing scraping on a curb which I've never had with any of my lifted vehicle obviously.

Thank you all for your replies!

have you checked the spare tire compartment? Might be a place you could put the cables. First Aid kit could probably fit under the 2nd row seats.

Also, please complete your registration by adding the 'Required' "Trim Level" (Limited) to your profile so it shows in the margin. That can be useful info at times. Thanks.

I plan on removing the spare tire, coating the well with the black flex seal (rubbery Aa Seen on TV stuff) will have tire kit, plugs, cables storage etc...
most mfg's are not putting in spare tires in cars. I was in a Chevy rental and when I had a flat, the car had no spare, they had a combination air pump with the green goo in it. (cool design). I might go that route too.

Some of the 2011 model year trims with the tow package had a tire kit in them under the driver's seat but that was discontinued shortly thereafter. tire mobility kit

I've got quite a few things stored in the spare tire well. Even with the tire in it there is quite a bit of room for jumper cables, couple of quarts of oil and a few other things. It would be nice if it was larger where you could actually place quite a few things into it but you have to live with what you have.

On the fix a flat stuff, I still carry a plugging kit and air compressor in my truck and have used them quite often for other people. Usually I am out 100 miles from a repair shop on dirt roads so it does come in handy.
