Putting a sub in the rear storage compartment thingy... ??? lol

I have (1) 10" MTX Thunder6000 and while it gives me what I wanted (a decent amount of bass for a nice price) it wont get overpowering. Its a nice step up from the factory sub and doesn't take up much cargo room at all... I'm pretty sure I could have fit it in the area for the stock woofer if I had played around and took out the stock and enclosure... haven't had time but you wouldn't have to contend with that anyways. Bottom-line: On limited funds, space and expectations, the Thunderform6000 has performed great and I don't want to do anything differently...

I had (and still have) the amp'd MTX box. When I blew the sub I found out it does take a 0.7 Ohm sub (like somebody mentioned). I did finally get an 800 number for MTX that was helpful. The new sub is $65, of course I found this out AFTER giving up & installing a new system. Overall it worked pretty good, its all MTX stuff and sounds pretty good, it won't blow the window seals out or anything but it sounds great for the size.

Are you interested in selling the amped box? If so, let me know how much. Thanks!!!

weekend install

I installed the MTX sub enclosure and Rockford amp this weekend. I amazed myself and my family but did have a few surprises and now some follow-up questions. When removing the passenger side rear panel to install my sub, I found an amp. I thought I had the base sound system-what a dummy! My question: I assume this factory amp is powering my door speakers, but, is it interferring with my new system in any way? If so, will it have to be overridden? If it has to be overridden, can I amp the door speakers with my Rockford amp, and how? Also, I've tweaked with the amp gains, but the sub doesn't seem very loud. I know I'm not going to get huge bass-I just wanted to be sure that everything is working at it's optimum capabilities.
I really want to thank everyone here for helping me through this-I wouldn't have gotten anywhere but poorer (they wanted $150 at an install place) without your input. Thanks

cookie,
You'll have to get someone else to tell you what that original amp does and what effects you might have when using it with an aftermarket stereo. I know when I got my aftermarket headunit I just got a bypass plug at the same time and bypassed the amp entirely.

In my setup the Nakamichi head powers the speakers directly (bypassing that OEM amp) and then a pre-amp output from the stereo goes under the carpet to my MTX amp (mounted in the same area as the OEM one was) which powers my sub in the Q-Logic enclosure. My sub seems plenty loud - I had to decrease the gain some to avoid having the bass overpower everything else.
