hey guys i have a 1993 xlt, i have no reverse lights. its a 5 speed manual, i had to replace the headlight fuse and did not have a 40 amp on hand so i pulled the 40 amp that says HTDBACLITE on the power dist. box. and then replaced that fuse with a new one, now they don't work i checked the dist. box fuse its good and the one under the dash, i tested them with a multimeter and am getting 2.0 volts. so its good. any ideas?? where are there any chassis fuses? breakers? fusible links? any help would be appreciated, its driving me nuts!
(also checked the dist. box with the multimeter just in-case, it was good as expected since all the other lights work.)

thanks
-Ryan

Do your turn signals work?

If so, Fuse 5 on the interior panel is OK and that's the fuse that also powers the backup lamp switch. The only thing left at that point that could be causing the problem is the backup lamp switch. The switch is located on the transmission near the shift tower and has two wires going into it. If you want, unplug the connector and jump the terminals inside the wire side of the connector and see if the backup lamps work. If they do, replace the switch.

Now, if the turn signals don't work, then you have another problem somewhere else in the circuit. If that's the case, lemme know and I post some wiring diagrams for you.

extremely huge help. the signals work fine just the back up lamps arre out, can i get to this switch from taking the boot off? or do i need to go under the truck?
thanks

i agree it sounds like you have a bad transmission range sensor.
