98 ford explorer sport
Hi everyone long time ford owner looking for some answers. I also own a 98 f250 and a restored 67 mustang but any who. I put my wifes 98 explorer in reverse and i heard a click then no reverse. I see everyone who has listed the same problem has heard a load thump like they hit someone, but the noise i heard was a click. my 4x4 works great in high and low and every gear works great. I think it mite be the control solonoid but not sure. anyone have any ideas. thanks Marc.

Could be broken band? Thats the most common concern.

as of now i'm kinda new at this ..........i havn't seen a band broke personally but i have seen the band "pop" out of place...thus when reverse is engaged the piston has no way to lock the drum.......in other words have to rebuild in either case... maybe help mabe not.......rebuilt too many to count.....

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions section. Did you try manual 1st gear to see if it works? Your low/reverse servo might have a chip or the O ring seals could be leaking.
