Hey guys im new to the site. I got a 93 Explorer sport. Im no interior man by far but i was tryin to install an aftermarket CD player. i bought one of the wire adapter kits from wal mart and matched all the wires by color. well my problem is that the rectangular plug that sends power to the radio is workin but the plug for the speaker wires wont go in my factory plug. So my main question is what wires can i run directly to the factory plug to get my sound through my speakers. sorry if i confused you guys at all but this aint my type of work so if it aint workin on my race quad im lost haha.

they have pictures of the plugs, and what wires go where.

You probably have the premium sound package. Which means you have a factory amp. When I replaced my stereo with cassette with the new pioneer w/cd, I discovered that I had a bad amp. I just replaced the speakers and ran all new wiring and now everything is great.

I put in a radio that drives the speakers directly. The square plug with the gray cable is the input and control to the external amp from the head unit. What I did was locate the connector between the speakers and the amp output, disconnect it, and ran wires to the speaker side of the plug from the new radio. The plug is located behind the trim panel on the passenger side B pillar. This is the panel that covers the seatbelt reel. Its an 8 pin connector. I disconnected it and identified the speaker side with an ohmmeter. I ran new speaker wires from the radio into the cable channel under the front passenger side door sill plate to the plug. I soldered Molex type pins onto the wires and pushed them into the appropriate mating pins on the connectors. It was relatively simple and I didn't have to pull the amp out. The amp is now bypassed and I didn't have to buy a special bypass cable.

You will need the Ford schematic diagram or the one in the Haynes book.
I can look up the color codes for the speaker wires for you because I took a lot of notes when I did the job.

I'm also in a predicament, I was at the junkyard the other day, and came across an Explorer that had the additional JBL sub for the rear cargo area, I was gonna grab it, and upgrade it, and put it into my own (i'd love to have bass without having to rob space). i was looking at the wiring, and from what i can tell there's an additional cord running from the front to the back...

anyoen know what it is? or if i need it? i didn't get it, but i'd like to get at least the enclosure... thanks.

you'll have to get power to the amp... now, to clear things up a bit for you I can probably look-up the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and scan it for you - wiring for the premium system that is... I hooked up aftermarket stereo to my JBL system...

Yeah, I'm running an aftermarket sony stereo, i'm thinking of maybe just getting the enclosure, and a mini amp, and using that... keep everything neat and hidden.

best bet, have best buy or someone install the new deck with an adaptor plug. if your amp is bad get new amp and speakers run NEW wires from the deck to the new speakers. if you try to re-use the stock equipment you will probaly have problems. anything else is really a waste of time and money

if you dont have the stock amp put power to the blue wire. it will work thats iff you dont have a stock amp. (got that from Burns)

I replaced my stock with a cd deck with factory amp and used one of the apx 8 different
plug in kits for the x and all sounds good with the factory amp working
