After(GF) running out of gas (then adding gas) no start. It was cranked over for to long and a smell was coming from dash area. The 2004 4.0 explorer Has gas pumping out of fuel rail. No spark ..I has had codes for a long time, but never failed to work fine. Main fuses seem to be fine, but cant test relays. Is there a relay that could be bad ? Or can the crank or camshaft position sensors be bad ? how can I test them ? Where or what do they look like? What else can it be and how do I fix it? This is our only family vehicle and we are almost out of money.. We are truly desperate ! Please help!

no spark its probally the crank sensor, autozone sells them for 13.99. it is a tight fit to replace because of the shroud and fan ect. if you do replace sensor I would remove upper shroud and fan. look at my clutch fan removal post you will see pic's on how I rig up tools to loosen the large fan nut. I don't know if it is a good idea or not but try spraying some starting fluid in the intake and see if it trys to run, that will rule out a spark problem, and point to a fuel problem. good luck keep us posted.
