I recently purchased my first explorer!:D Its a 96 Limited with v6. It has 279,000 miles on the original motor and is in near perfect condition inside and out. But, I do have a problem. If you kill the engine and then try to immediately re start it, it will just sputter a few times and the die. It will then crank and crank and not hit at all. In the past it has eventually restarted but I have not been able to get it to start yet tonight. All othe times it runs flawlessly. Also, why does the door locks cycle when I turn the key off and on several times repeatedly?

Is the engine at normal operating temps when you turn it off and try to restart it? I would check air filter and plugs. If those are good, go to autozone and rent a fuel pressure gauge. Check your fuel pressure when the car is warmed up. I hoped this helped a little. Good luck

I removed and reinstalled the fuel pump relay a couple times. I then heard the fuel pump whirl and it started right up. I killed and restarted several times and was unable to duplicate the problem. May be it was a poor connection on the relay. I'll let everyone know if I have any more problems. Thanks for the help, I read a great deal of useful information on this site.
