If your Explorer is showing CEL, WRENCH no throttle and barely runs slowly, rough idle etc...

Apparently Ford in certain model years taped the wiring harnesses everywhere so tight, the coating on the wires become brittle. Check every harness under the wire coverings, do this after you check the fuses.

I put the code reader on there and it shows many codes, went to the back of the throttle body at the harness near the rear of engine at the firewall, you'll have to get on top of the motor!! Sure enough under all that tape four wires were exposed grounding out on each other.

The Fix: Pull out red tab on connector, push in on black tab, pull off connector, pull wires apart, tape each wire, etc..

Runs smoothly??

Other codes also could mean wiring issues also.. CHECK THEM WIRES...

HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE...

THIS MAY BE ON OTHER YEAR MODELS ALSO, SO THIS COULD BENEFIT MANY PEOPLE, FORD SHOULD KNOW BETTER!! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON HOW THEY TAPE ALL THOSE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS...

Earlier years of the 4th gen Explorers are known to have wire insulation issues. Especially in the area you mention. Thanks for reporting in. It will help people in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to post. As mentioned it has been a problem that has been reported multiple times. Oddly my 07 has never had that issue so I wonder if there is a common thread somewhere.
Is it climate related? Stored in the garage or outside? Maybe just a bad batch of wiring harnesses? It's too prevalent to be a fluke but it doesn't affect everyone.

This vehicle is near a coastal region, but no one else is experiencing this sort of problem around here...

Or the exhaust manifold studs are totally shot...on both banks
