noise coming from underneath while hitting brakes going foward

my trucks been making quite a racket lately. anytime i slow down, just before i come to a stop, there is a squeaking noise in the front end. i've greased up all the grease nipples. this only happens applying the brakes.

this only started happening a couple days after i drove over rocky pavement. could this have loosened stuff up, like a ball joint?

it doesn't make the noise if i'm in reverse and come to a stop using the brakes.

Just for grins, check the front brake discs. Sounds a lot like what mine sounded like when they went bad.

not a squeeling noise, its a creaking / squeaking noise, more creaking than anything.

i'll give them a check though!

i'm subscribing to this thread, i have the EXACT same problem... almost like a weight is shifting kinda hard? this is what i've heard from a few people...

could be a 'loose' shock, or something loose in the suspension (obviously i know), my neighbor though, he said it almost sounded/felt like a broken engine mount, not sure about that one... but what is plaguing me is my Dad's Taurus (1999 i think) made a sound very similar to that... except in his car it was the struts i think he called them...

i'm not sure explorer's have struts, i'm leaning to the no side, but i could be wrong.

I get mostly a thud type sound, I hadnt had time to look under there yet, my steering wheel also pulls to the left at times, I think it's one of my caliper's not working, I'm going to be changing them out in less than a month, which I will be taking pics of, for the newbies that dont know how to bleed brakes.

Sounds like the radius arm bushings are going bad. You might try a search on this, I know there are numerous threads about replacing these bushings.

My 1994 stock xlt had an intermitant left pull I replaced the calipers and slides, it happened again so I thought maybe a collapsed flex hose so I replaced both hoses again a few weeks later the same thing in the city the calliper was locking up ended up burning out 1 rotor and 2 sets of pads final diagnosis the abs system just pulled the relay and havent had the problem again (also have no abs though) and have gained a amber light on my dash screaming "ABS". I will fix it properly (maybe)

yea could be the radius arm bushings. i'll take a look at them the next time I have the tires off.

sounds like when i hit an extremely pothole filled road really fast by accident, they could have loosened up.
