Noise problem. Air through the driver's side door.

Ok so While I am driving at speeds above 50 miles an hour I start to hear air coming through the drivers side door. The air seems to be coming from the crack between the window and the hinge. It seems most noisy from about the base of the window up about 6-8 inches. Ive taken it for ford a bunch of times and they keep saying they have fixed it and when I take it out on the high way this air noise just keeps coming.

It is a 99 Ford Explroer. Anyone had this issue? Any idea on how to fix this? Thanks.


On a side note the display on my radio just went out. Is their way to fix this without replacing the entire unit? It sometimes goes on when it gets REALLY cold but then fades away.

How do I check the fuse?

You have fuses under the hood, and under the dashboard. Check for gaps around mouldings on the door.

I am not insanely car savvy. So I will need a bit more guide then that =0 Where should I check first, what tools will I need, how Will I know what to look for or if it is broken?

Do you have an owner's manual? It will show you what each fuse is for.

my radio display was doing the same thing and i had to take it to get repaired. it is the wires that go to the power board, they need to be re soldered, and as for the noise i would check all the weather striping around the door. i have the same problem but myne is because my window is going up on an angle and not properly sealing, maybe you should check that??

I could be the window, or the seal. I can't tell! I don't know how to trouble shoot this! How can I figure out where the sound is coming from? It soudns like it may be coming from the window or the hinge

As for the fuse, I will check out the owners manual.

when i put my window up the whole window will fall towards the front of the vehicle about half an inch so that is the only way i could suggest looking to see if it is coming from the window. watch the window as your are putting it up and make sure it is going straight up and not falling any abnormal way.

Look in the door hinge area forward into the fender. Can you see into the fender very far at all? There is supposed to be a large insulation piece in the very back of the fender, running fully from top to bottom. That often falls out or is dislodged or misshapen. You can check the door seal with any slip of paper, place it in the door and shut the door, trying to remove the paper when the door is shut. Other than those, wind noise often comes into the mirror around its perimeter. You can reduce that noise by R&Ring the mirror, adding light sealant around the seam.
