Sometimes when I accelerate, I hear this noise and it sounds like something is spinning, kind of high pitched. It appears to be coming from the gauges. Nothing seems to be majorly wrong but I was just wondering what it could be.

Thanks
Chris

I'm not sure if the Explorer has a speedometer cable that runs all the way to the instrument panel or not because I haven't had to remove an instrument panel from one of mine, so far. If it does, and the noise sounds like a metal-to-metal squeaking, it could be a dry OR worn speedometer cable housing and the cable itself rubbing together. I'll let others look at this and comment also. There is a type of grease that has been available in the past just for speedometer cables. You would have to remove OR move the instrument panel over enough to disconnect the cable from the back of the instrument panel, remove the center cable from the housing, lube it and reinstall it. You would then need to reinstall the instrument panel.
Check / search the Forum for others that might have had Speedometer Cable problems.
