NON-EMERGENCY--Wipers stay on---

I have a 97 XLT, the wipers stay on and will not turn off. They are stuck in the second highest speed position. I tried cleaning the terminals as noted in all the other wiper threads however this did not fix the problem. In fact, when half the switch is removed the wipers still stay on. What should I replace next? Motor?

Sorry to post here, not sure where else to put it.

Well if it staying on then it is a electrical problem, not the motor. So check your wires and connections. This is the first time i have heard of this problem, that is pretty interesting.

i dont know about a 97 but there was a recall on my 99 because they would come on randomly that should fix the prolblem if indeed you have the recall

That is what I assumed it to be. I just had it at the shop and they said they were going to replace the motor, which seemed odd to me, but it is the only reason I brought it up.
