not bashing anyone, in response to jeep-ex. comparo

yes, i am 14. i just put it in my profile becuase i wanted to, i dont really know why. anyway, i actedlike i owned the jeep and was older because iwanted people's opinions just to see what everyone thought. i thought that if everyone knew i was 14 they wouldnt take me seriously and they would make fun of me or tell me to leave, or whatever. i just wanted to ask a question and be taken seriously. yes, i ave driven the jeep. my dad and i go 4 wheeling all the time in BLM land. (bureau of land management land) and i was told that you can pretty much anything you want out there without getting into trouble. so he lets me drive the jeep off roads only and gives me tips and pointers, for future experience and knowledge that i will use when i have my own car. so, if you can still take me seriously and not give me too much crap then that would make me happy.

Its not that there isn't enough seating space in the Jag XJ, they don't have much headroom or shoulderroom and the front seats a very narrow, doesn't make a difference if its the L or the Vanden Plas. They have all the seating spaces, but when compared to my Lexus, especially the new 430, a Benz S Class or a BMW 7 series, they dont FEEL nearly as roomy because of those issues and because the windshield is so small and close to the driver. I hope the new XJ holds the priceline because the current one is very well priced, well underneath the BMW and Mercedes, around the same as the Lexus.

Well, I see where you're coming from. The seats do feel really narrow. And I don't like how the leg compartments for the front seats are just little narrow tunnels almost. It's hard to explain, and I have no idea if you know what I'm talking about or not. But yeah, the Jags do have some narrowness issues, I'll agree.

Chase,
Thats why I'm hoping the new XJ will fix those issues because I really do like the style of the Jag.

wj-jeep guy, Your age makes no difference, your opinion is just as valuable as anyone else's, two years especially doesnt make one member's opinion any more credible than the next. I'm smart enough to recognize that your knowledge of the Jeep is greater than mine, and I'm 46 years older than you. If anyone else has issues with your credibility based on your age and not your level of knowledge, then that is their problem not yours. I think you'll find that our membership is very mature, down to earth, and collected, and I don't think you'll have problems. If you do, just let me know you can PM me or my email is stephen@explorerforum.com.

When is the new XJ coming out, do you know? And is it a new generation, or just some little modifications?

yeah, good for you for being 14 on the site learning and sharing your knowledge. I'm 19 now, but i still run into discrimination all the time when trying to modify my truck and otherwise because of my age and i hate it. I also have a 15 year old brother who frequents fordtruckworld, this site, and escapeforum.com all the time and he often doesn't get the respect he deserves from site members unless i back him up (it seems that most people listen to what i say for some reason) however, we are building him a sweet truck and deserves respect just like anyone else so when he doesn't get it it can be very frustrating.

anyways, the point is stick around, learn, and share.

btw- if you aren't already a member of the jeep forums please be careful telling them how old you are! they are quick to flame

thanks guys, i know what you mean about the jeep forums! its pretty harsh over there.

The article also mentions that the current XJ is classed by the EPA as "compact", same as the Chevy Cavalier because of its interior volume, but they say the new one is much bigger. I think its a great looking car, and definately has the style that some of the new big luxury cars are having trouble with (Lexus LS430, BMW 7 Series)

wow, the new XJ looks like it retaains a lot of the styling cues of the old XJ, but freshened. a very familiar look, but not an old look. beeeeeautiful.

Besides my grandparents Arden Jaguar XKR, when I saw that photo in my Car and Driver magazine...it made me want a jag so bad.

something about the Jaguar XK8 and XKR serie's shape, they could keep it the same forever and never change it and somehow it would still look fresh, unique and gorgeous no matter what.

God I wish my grandparents didn't sell their Arden version:(

Btw Stephen, you don't think an SOHC with 4.10 gears will run a 0-60 in 8.5 seconds? ;)

And another.

This pic reminds me a lot of the baby Jag, which I don't like. I'm also not a fan of the new brake lights.

But overall, I guess it looks good. I don't know, I just don't like the new exterior rounded-ness. But hopefully the interior will be improved enough to make it worth it :)

You can see the family resemblence in the rear, but thats about it. The Jag has never been square, and its never had that many sharp creases, I think the newest look kind of smooths out the body for a more modern look.

My son and I went to the Washington Auto Show this afternoon, and unfortunately there wasn't a 04 XJ there, just an 03. Reinforcing my feelings that the car is very very cramped. I did have an opportunity to sit in a new BMW 745Li, and I have to admit, the car is really growing on me. I'll have to go take one for a spin, definately a classy car. Only issue is, the car is so needlessly complicated. For instance, in order to move the seat, you have to specify which seat portion you want to move, then activate the movement with a little joystick on the side of the console. I didn't even have a chance to play with iDrive, the seat controls took me long enough LOL. Its a very neat car though, the interior is gorgeous.

I also got to sit in the slightly revamped S500 4matic (definately a good thing for me, AWD, my LS400 is a DOG in the snow) and I was impressed, they really upped the quality of the interior, and the new headlights modern up the front end well. It does seem a little outdated next to the new BMW though, not to mention $15,000 more expenive

The LS430, although devoid of a lot of the new gadgets, still holds up against the competition though. Its going to be a tough decision in July.

I don't know why, I can't place my finger on it, I just like the old body style better. But I know most of the time pictures can't do justice, now I really want them to arrive at the Jag dealers so I can check them out. Oh well.

So what all will you be looking at in June? We've got the XJ, the 745Li, S500, and LS430. Any others you can think of off the top of your head?

Well, I'm definately going to shop the LS430, the 745Li, the S500 (I'd really love the 4Matic, but the one I sat in was 89,000 and it wasn't even loaded, the 745Li had a lot more features for $76,000, and the LS430 is loaded totally at $70,000, so it will be a hard sell for the Benz) the new XJ, the new Audi A8, thats pretty much all I can think of right now. All the big boys.

heh, Stephan, forget about the Arden XKR, my grandparents said it was around $140,000 when they bought theres.....think thats a little out of the range you wanna stay in;)

Check out the new E55 AMG.....should have told you this before, hehe, I went for a ride in the new E55 AMG (supercharged if you didn't know) that my grandparents best friends just got, it is extremely fast. The torque is so immense, forget about getting pinned to the seat, it crushes your body to the seat....and I mean hard. I cannot believe how powerful that car is. And the AMG massaged V8 sounds so good, I think it just got my nod for best sounding V8 ever made....topping the dohc 4.6 Cobra engine IMO. And the quality was like 2nd to none, it was beautiful inside, and the AMG seats were the most comfortable I've ever been in.

Dead Link Removed

Their's is black though, I've seen an 03' CL55 around here also and it looks so nice.
It was around 90,000 but they traded in their BMW X5 3.0 on it and payed cash so they got a pretty good deal. If your trading in your LS400 it would knock off a good chunk from the price, but you'd probably get more selling it privately. Then you'll have 469hp and 516lb-ft of torque to scare yourself and your customers, and trust me when I say it's sick fast, besides my moms friends Ruf Porsche Turbo I don't think I've ever been in another car that was so powerful.

oh yeh, their in their 50's if your wondering, I know it sounds funny for older people to be driving cars like these. my grandparents are both 70 but look like their in their early 60's and don't act like it at all.

That would be one sick car to drive your customers around, you'd make every sale b/c they would just want to be in that car lol. But it does guzzle gas, he gets about 15-16mpg or so in the city, not bad at all though when you consider what it's capable of.
