not bashing anyone, in response to jeep-ex. comparo

I recently traded a 1998 Accord V6 Coupe in on a 2003 Explorer. I had more problems out of the Honda in the 23k miles I owned it than I have had on my 97 F150 with 103k miles. The final straw for the Honda was when I was rear-ended and it was almost totaled. At the same time, the tranny was developing problems, which I learned was common for V6 Accords. I also learned that dealers were charging $6,000 plus for new trannys.

Now I am looking for a used car for a commuter vehicle as the F150 and Explorer aren't very economical for that. $8-12k for a low mileage 2000-2002 Taurus SES seems like a steal compared to any Japanese offering I am aware of. I purchased my Accord 3 years old and paid a premium price only to have problems.

I sat in the E too, I like the looks of it, but its a little too small for me I'm afraid. Plus the AMG versions are a little tightly sprung, I ride around on the DC beltway all day, so I prefer ride over sport ;) The AMG cars are really sharp though, they had an S55, a SL55 and a CL55 at the auto show.

As for trading the LS400 in, unfortunately I don't own it. I leased it new in 1998, then in 2001 my company bought it for me as a part of a new expensing program, its a company car of sorts. I get a new one every two years now. They only want to spring for a $35,000 car (they bought my LS400 off lease for about that) so they're going to dock my income for the balance of the payment on whatever I choose. They will however pay in a cash sum the $35,000 down on the car so it'll really offset the payment. Its a good deal, they pay for gas, tolls, even all parking and maintenance.

Damn  So tell me, how exactly does one go about getting this job? :D

LOL, you don't want it trust me ;)

Hours are long, lots of travelling, in fact I leave for NJ tomorrow. I earn the car and then some, trust me ;)

I just noticed that you're 16, how would you feel if someone came at you and mentioned that fact that your Explorer actually belongs to your mother because you legally have no property until you reach 18? You would feel that comment had no place in this thread wouldn't you?

Please think about the bigger picture before you post.
Really... you want an honest answer? I don't give a rat’s ass. I may not legally OWN anything until I am 18, but I am the primary user of the vehicle that my father has given ME. If some jack hole lawyer says it isn't mine... that’s great... but I'm quite sure I know two people who know whose it is... my dad, and me. I would feel that comment had no pertinence in this thread however. I think it would have plenty of pertinence in a thread that I created discussing my legal ownership of the vehicle I primarily drive. :o

yes, i am 14. i just put it in my profile becuase i wanted to, i dont really know why. anyway, i actedlike i owned the jeep and was older because iwanted people's opinions just to see what everyone thought. i thought that if everyone knew i was 14 they wouldnt take me seriously and they would make fun of me or tell me to leave, or whatever. i just wanted to ask a question and be taken seriously. yes, i ave driven the jeep. my dad and i go 4 wheeling all the time in BLM land. (bureau of land management land) and i was told that you can pretty much anything you want out there without getting into trouble. so he lets me drive the jeep off roads only and gives me tips and pointers, for future experience and knowledge that i will use when i have my own car. so, if you can still take me seriously and not give me too much crap then that would make me happy.
You acted like you owned it so you can get an answer? I don't mind that... you didn't say you actually did own it. You are right, when you are young... you'll get a lot of crap for you age, because many adults think they are far superior to us teens. Granted, they may have more life experience than us... but most of my friends and myself are FAR smarter than your average Joe, and even more then many above average adults. Sad that teens are all thrown into a 'wreckless and stupid druggie' category. Cool that your dad is such a nice guy... I wish MY dad wasn't always at the hospital... but I guess since he is working to save kids' lives, his absence can be excused. Your graceful and plausible explanation has saved you from my skeptical wrath. :D

Forgive my delayed reply, I have been at a YoungLife camp for the week with some friends in NC, I wish I had my Ex there so bad... but oh well.... I was browsing thru the 800+ posts I missed and cam across this one... which I addressed as promptly as possible.

I agree, the Explorer has belonged to my son since he was 17, and it was always treated as his. I was just saying that to prove a point.

I also agree that most kids your age really do get a bad rap and are discriminated against horribly, a lot worse than we were when adults of my generation were your age. I was just pointiong out that the way you came against him, you were really doing the same thing. He never actually discussed ownership of the vehicle, everyone just drew the conclusions that they drew. His age has no pertinance to his thread, and you used it against him much in the way an adult would have.

I know what you mean about the masses of posts after you're away, it sometimes swallows ya up ;)

thanx. yes we are always suspects for something:rolleyes: whatever, i dont care.
