Hi all!

Sorry I didn't realize that this thread was still going as my "power issue" has actually been solved. I'm kinda disappointed however that everybody seems to think I can't read the "explorer" badge on my car. I mean it even says explorer on my title. I also used to have a camera I could borrow my from my sister but now that she moved away I haven't even been able to take pictures for facebook in months.



I still don't really know enough about how the whole vin system works to just let everybody have it , but I guess I'll feel ok with giving away just the two. The 8th appears to be a "P" and the 10th appears to be a "R". I also went outside and looked at the vin behind the windshield on the little dash area and it looks to be the same as my title.

I really don know what else to post. Until my parents let me borrow more money it'll be a while till I can get a good camera for some pictures, or can afford a vehicle history report. If I were made of money I sure would like to see the report or take some more recent pictures of it. Whenever I get one or the other I'll post em here. That's unbelievable. Yours is certainly a rarity. It must have been a very special order or a testbed for a 1st gen V8. Pics as soon as possible please!

Well, Ford must have built a bunch of 1995 model Explorers during the end of 1994--these might have 1994 (R code) digits in the VIN (that's up to the whim of Ford I think).

My questions would be:

1) Does the vehicle have first generation or second generation body panels?
2) What is the build date on the door tag?

PS Congrats on the V8 Explorer sounds like fun.

i think the reason this thread is still going is most of us are very curious to know if there was an option of a V8 in a first gen explorer, like an ssv or ssp package for government use. congrads on what may turn out to be a very rare vehicle.

My 95 was actually built in 11/94, which is a second gen made in 94. I dont see how that would even be the case though with his though because the v8 wasnt offered until 96?
I mean anything is possible, maybe a trial run vehicle?

Well all I can say is wow.. From what your VIN says it apparently did originally have a 5.0L V8. I've never heard of this before and is a very special case. If I were you I'd hang on to that truck, it is a very rare vehicle.

Congratulations on the rare find!! You had all of us very confused on this issue.

Not to keep the other vehicle thing going, but all that those numbers say is that it is a 94 and had 5.0 V8. Could be any vehicle

Start with the basics... plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter. Also, measure you gas mileage to see what it is. You should be somewhere in the 15-18 mpg neighborhood.

I've done all the above suggestions to my explorer to get a whopping 12 MPG city, 8 if I don't watch my driving. Needless to say my alignment is a little off, front passenger tire hums along, the other do not. $45 four wheel alignment coming up soon. Than perhaps, another 1 MPG, I don't expect any gains.


My suggestion is, if your wanting something to put you back into your seat, get a mustang and not an underpowered 4,500 pound SUV. May save money on gas in the process, I got 22/27 in my old 2004 V6 Mustang, not bad with 193 HP and 220 ft/lbs. To bad I couldn't afford the payment and full coverage insurance back in 2005 when I was 19

Now I just drive over snow mounds like they are not even there, can't do that in a mustang :

According to my LMC catalog and Haynes manual, my 1994 explorer should have four wheel ABS, mine was born in 11/93.

I no longer trust reliable sources for information about my explorer when my eyes do not lie. I trust you guys though
