:dunno:Not sure where to post this so plz forgive me. Ok here is my problem.About a week ago i tried to start my X and it would only crank over.It ran perfectly fine the day before. I went out in the morning & it would only crank over. After trying for sometime i decided to wait awhile, when i went back out later in the afternoon it hesitated a little but started up.I fig it was due to some condensation in the fuel line so i went to the parts store & bought some dry gas, while i was there i got a bottle of lucas tune up in a bottle also.Went to the gas station put the additives in filled the tank & went home. All went fine till this morning, I got called out for a roll over accident & i jumped in it to leave & it did the same thing again.(ended up taking the wife's Wind Star). When i returned home i tried for several hrs with no results,I sprayed starting fluid in the intake & it still wouldn't start. So a buddy of mine came over & we towed it to my grandfathers body shop. I left it set in there for a couple of hrs to warm up.When i went back over to try to start it again it hesitated for awhile but it finally started, but now it is running rough. I pulled it out of the shop so i could let it idle for awhile.I revved it up a couple of times & it left a bunch of black carbon all over the snow & idles like crap. Can anyone help me out with some ideas?

sounds like maybe a maf or fpr problem ...that is you said the exhaust was sooty .when did you give it a tune up last ? any cel codes ?

What is a fpr? There are no codes that i know of. I have not put a code scanner on it. I just bought it a few months ago,& haven't had the chance to give it a proper tune up.

fuel pressure regulator .located on the passenger side of the engine bay near .if you see the coil pack then go directly foward twards the front of the truck and you will see it .small round canister witha single vac line going to it .

sometimes the diaphram inside the fpr will rupture and gas will be sent back through the upper intake system ( vac tree) .if you can pull off the vac line that goes to the fpr and if you see or smell gas in it then it's shot .but it would give you bad starts and i think a sooty exhaust just like a dirty mass air flow sensor .

hope this helps

does the check engine light come on when it finally starts?

the soot might have been all the gas that was left in the exhaust system, i would change the plugs first , and see if it improves,,

what the heck is dry gas ?
a few questions

can you hear the fuel pump when you turn the key ?
it started when warm,, hmmm water in the tank ?
relays click under the hood, ?
once running if you hold down the pedal a bit does it smooth out, ?
is the check engine light on ??

Hey Corkey. No the check engine light wasn't on.All the relays & the fuel pump kick on. I changed the plugs & wires this morning(what a chore it was doing the pass. side).Check Engine light came on after I changed plugs & wires. So i reset the computer. The light went out but it is still idleing kinda rough. The soot is gone after i ran it down the road abit. The longer it ran the better it started to get ,so maybe I'll drive it for awhile & see if it gets better with time.I'm gonna post pic's of the plugs. The guy I bought my little green monster from said he had it serviced it regularly. So either he lied to me or is service garage lied to him cuz there is hardly any electrode left.

Sorry they are blurry I used my camera phone & i don't have a steady hand.
Oh & to answer you ? About what dry gas is. It is an additive to take care of water or condensation in your fuel service.

well the plugs are a bit rough, ,
it gets better, might be just burning all the crap out of the engine and exhaust ,
i had this issue with mine when i bought it too, i changed the plugs and wires and the same thing happened, it got better and better,, that was about 170,000 kilometers ago,
hope it does for you too,

keep us posted,,

Well I'm happy to report that the Little Green Monster is running awesome:burnout:.Everything is back to normal. Thanks for all the help everyone.:biggthump
