Transfer case problem????????

hello gentlemen and ladies (if applicible). 1992 exploder xlt, 4.0 auto. my problem is that the other day was leaving for work and out of nowhere, i had no gears. in drive it would just grind. in reverse it would just grind. in neutral it would stop. so i turned in my hubs and locked into 4x4 and still nothing. so i kicked into neutral and locked into low range and it would go. so i ran it down the road, stopped and kicked back into 2 whell drive and it worked fine. went to work and on way home, it did it again. also this time the speedo went crazy.bouncing all over. it will move in 2 wheel drive, but will not upshift now. any suggestions, comments? please help! and thank you

when it was in 4low would the tranny shift on its own ? have you checked the fluid level an color of the tranny oil ?
with the speedo bouncing i would say its the transfercase as thats where its hooked up to . im guessing here but maybe some1 else has had the same problem an will chime in

tranny fluid is full and very red. i dont know if it would shift up thru the gears, i only ran it down the road at 15 mph about a quarter mile. was being very carefull as not to aggrevate anything further.

i would almost say you broke a gear on the out put shaft in the transfer case. you could drain the oil in the case an see if you get metal in the oil . you saying it was grinding so either the tranfer case or the tranny will have metal in it
