Hi everyone - new here, just purchased an 08 xlt v6. Already found some helpful advice here and looking forward to trying to help others out.

My problem:

Trans was rebuilt, then it started exhibited symptoms of the neutral safety switch needing to be replaced (wouldn't start in park, but it would in neutral. now it won't start at all most times - starts in neutral maybe 1/10 times). When I tried to remove it, the center retaining nut is stuck. Two questions:

1) when I was trying to turn it, the position lever went all the way to the left, and now it is detecting gears even more poorly. Is it possible to damage internal parts if you turn that two far (I had a block of wood in to keep the lever from moving as I was trying to turn the nut, and the wood slipped out). Or is the sensor just working more poorly?

2) Any tricks/thoughts on how to get the nut off? Been hitting it with penetrating oil everyday but it still isn't budging.

Any advice is appreciated.

assuming its the 5r55s transmission the shift cable is adjustable and could possibly be out of adjustment a way to check is to see if the lever on side goes all the way into detent (Park) by placing truck shifter in park and removing the cable from lever and then seeing if the lever can go further if so the cable needs adjustment if it is in then the park netual range switch is bad its the big half moon looking thing behind the lever and if your referring to the nut that holds it on you may want to try an impact gun or impact hammer to lightly bang and twist it free with wd-40 how long ago was trans rebuilt ? should be fixed by person who rebuilt it

Thanks for the reply. The person who rebuilt it did a poor job. Going back today to make them fix it - turns out the part that the nut inserts into inside of the transmission (sorry I'm not sure of the terminology) had cracked and the nut was just spinning inside of it.

yikes that isn't good and thats fine no terminology needed here cause even the masters forget the correct label so doohickey is acceptable.

The takeaway for anyone reading this is if you are replacing the NSS and the nut won't budge, don't force it, or you will break the piece inside the transmission then need major work done. Fortunately the guy who rebuilt it was willing to acknowledge this vehicle has been a pain (this is the third time I"ve brought it back) and fix it.

Thanks for the replies, hopefully this can help someone as I've been helped on this forum.
