O/D fuse blowing

96 4x4 o/d fuse #26 blows. any help on problem?

Does it blow all the time, or only when you activate/deactivate OD?

so far i have just noticed it when i go to engage the 4x4

That fuse does more than protect the OD the 4x4 shift circuit. You had the same probem as this person here http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=235104&page=3

My AWD '97 Explorer keeps blowing the #26 Fuse.

overdrive, DRL
system, backup lamps,
AWD, rear defroster

I have replaced the fuse & tried to eliminate the variables.

The overdrive switch & rear defroster work fine.
I can put the vehicle in reverse & the backup lamps work.
But, if I put the vehicle in DRIVE the fuse blows.

Any thoughts?
