i went to a muffler shop and requested them to replace my cat and asked them if it would be ok if they only put one on. well, to my astonishment they told me that i could run no cats and the computer would be fine! but i opted to put the cat on ,so be thankfull greenies, i was in a generous mood. i was told that it would screw with my computer if i ran no cats. FOR THE RECORD on 94 and down there is only one o2 sensor (you hear it straight from the horses mouth)

From what I have read about the cat's, if you take them out you will lose quite a bit of power. As far as 94's only having one O2 sensor your wrong. I have a 94 Sport and there are 2 of 'em'.

My 94 has 2 O2 sensors.

91's have 1, and I think 92's have 1 also.

My friends 93 XLT has 2 O2s also.

well that is what the people at the muffler place told me and they did look under there and find only one. why would they tell me that at the risk of losing business

hey guess what sncwfo99 your wrong i looked my self saw one O2 and thats it not 2 or even 3 go look for your self after the cat there is not a O2 sensor; unless mine was built differently then the others. it is the original exhaust so that is straight from the factory. i dont know about the sports they may be different. by the way taking off the cat will not lose so much back pressure that you would lose some low end torque i believe the muffler provides enough back pressure and so do the stock headers. straight pipes that is a different story.

My 94 has two O2 sensors. They both are mounted before the cat, one on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. There would not be a sensor after the cat.

hey metstalker, yours may be different, but mine has two. If I was you I would look again. The drivers side has one in the down tube, if I remember right, and it is a little hard to see. The first time I tryed to find mine I had a hard time finding both because of that. I never said anything about an o2 being after the cat, all I said is there are two o2 sensors. Mine is the original exhaust too and as far as the taking out the cats I'm just letting you know what I have read about the subject.

My Sport has 2 as well... Replaced them both myself about 35,000 miles ago and they may need it again. (Have to pull codes).

I'd just walk out of that shop and take my business somewhere else, but that's just me. Just like the time an employee of a nationwide muffler shop, which shall remain unnamed, told me that I could only run 2" pipe out of an aftermarket muffler, because 2.25" would not fit, and of course there was no way I could run it out under the bumper!

(I took it to a small local shop and now have 2.25" pipe that exits underneath the bumper with an SS tip.)

My 92 only has one O2 sensor. How much does it cost to have them put on, I have tried any and everything to take it off to no avail (blow-torch, right after running, lubed, etc...). I'm going nuts here!!!
My Ford CD says that 93-94 have two O2 sensors with the 91-92 having only one...

I don't know how much it will cost to have them put on, but I know how you feel trying to replace them. I ended up having to extend my wrench with a bar and force the bar to move with my feet, they were stuck so securely. Yeah, the replacements went on with a copious amount of anti-seize!

With a 94 you really should have 2 O2S, one on each pipe coming off the exhaust manifold. I'm pretty sure DaHeinah is right, that 91-92s had 1 O2 and 93-94s had 2 O2s. If your 94 doesn't there's somethin weird there, like you got a leftover computer and manifold from a 91 or 92. Do you have EGR?

I'm with you on that!;)

I replace mine last week. Only 1 on my 93 XLT 4dr.
Check your Haynes manual. it is mentioned that some earlier models only have 1.

'94s have 2 o2 sensors and they're in the y-pipe. The cats are after the y-pipe so I'm not sure if it would be safe but the o2 sensors would still exist.

i was told that there was one behind the cat that is why i was so mad because some body lied to me just to keep me from taking off the cats which was the only reason for this post
