i have a bad o2 sensor. the check engine light is on and it tells me on the computer test that the o2 ( bank 1 sensor 2 ) harness or module is bad. i bought one at auto zone but there is more then one sensor. i have the 97 5.o awd model. anyone ever come across this problem. i stop at a few auto shops. an they all tell me different locations. i think they guess just to get me out of there store. so i would greatly appriciate and kind of help from this problem, im losing alot of fuel due to this. 300mi per tank to about 260 miles... plus the exhaust smells like str8t gas. runs way to rish. thank you for you help once again.

Bank one sensor two is passenger side after the cat converter.

Dont be surprised if you get the same code after you replace the sensor however. Your code does not automatically mean the sensor is bad, it means the computer is getting a signal from that sensor that is out of range. Could easily be a faulty wire connection, a bad catalytic converter, etc.

You can do a search on this forum, 02 sensors are covered often.

You should post the OBD-II code that the computer gave you/Autozone to help forum members give you advice.

Before buying new sensors you can perform tests to eleiminate other things as being the cause of your fault (ie wiring) this approach saves you $$$$.

after i get the o2 sensor replace it will still read bad? or might if that isnt the problem right? im gettin terrible mpg from it. would a bad cat cause this? as far as the wiring to it, it has 4 wires. what color wire do i test and how do i go about it to figure out if its the wiring. thank you soo much for the response... ive been scratchin my head over this for months.

Search Button

Since you already have the sensor you can try swapping it out and see if the code COMES BACK.

Y ou need to reset the computer (clear the code) after the new 02 sensor is installed.

To gain access to the 02 sensior plug you will most likely want to go through the floor under your center console.

If you want help in this matter FIRST, try a search and POST the computer TROUBLE code.

02 sensors are talked about ALOT on this forum. :)

ok ill get the exact code from autozone in about an hour. and post it for you. thank you again
