Before spending money on replacement O2 sensors, hook up an OBD II scanner and check their function.

Good luck ..........

FYI not all OBD-II scanners can monitor the 02 sensor reference voltage, some scanners are jsut simple code retrievers, so be careful if you want to monitor them.

Yes, and they are called code readers for a reason.

oh hey good info :)
code reader vs scanner.
Aldive say somebody had a laptop, which software/interface cable would you chose to use as your scanner?

I am back and forth between the laptop and/or the scanner to get for my trucks.

Also I am not sure if this applies to this 98 truck, but I have been told that the 1997 5.0L PCM's had a recall from Ford because they would throw false 02 sensor and transmission range sensor codes. I get these codes from time to time on my 97, clear them and they come back. I have checked the wiring and all 02 sensors are new. I suspect I need an updated PCM. Ford wants $350 to reflash my computer and I am weary of taking it to them since my truck is not exactly "stock"

Any input on this?

I am not familar with software for scanner use; I use a dedicated unit.

There is a few companies that make PC based OBDII scanners.. Autotap is one company and AutoEnginuity is another one.. There's also a few on E-bay. I plan on buying one since the damn Scangauge is nothing but keeping space on the shelf.

Problem Solved

Upon inspection of the wiring harness I found that the bracket at the rear of the intake had worn through, cutting two wires. The fix took all of 15 min, 2 butt connectors and some electrical tape. I added two layers of wire wrap to prevent reoccurance.
