Is it true that if you replace an O2 sensor that you can get an upgrade of 5miles to the gallon?? That would be nice to have. I was wondering which side of the manifold is it on?

Actually it depends on if the O2 sensor is bad or not...I also have a 91 sport..You only have one O2 sensor and it is mounted under thetruck behind where the two headers meet...pretty easy except for the electrical connector...If its never been changed, you will notice a gain in mpg's...I dont know how much though...Depends on what your current mpg is....Hope that helps

little tip on that invisible connector...reach thru the fender well, Alot easier to hook it up..

like 91 4X4 said, if your O2's are bad yes you will get over a 5 mpg increase, which is how the company can make that claim. But if the O2's aren't bad then you will in no way see a 5 mpg increase. I recently changed mine, they were not hard, just get someone 2 help ya and you've got a 20-30 min job. The 2nd person is useful in climbing 'on top' of the engine and reaching down the back of it 2 plug in the electrical connectors. Thats the way i did it, and it was pretty easy if i do say so myself.(alot easier than changing spark plugs anywho) my .02

How Much?

Thanks for the info..

I know where I can get one from Napa for $28. How much dod you get your for?

I just checked with a buddy of mine who manages a Federated Auto Parts affiliate. Their books ignored the 1995 year model, and the 96 listed only 1 o2 sensor, and the best price was $55.00. I have understood that there are 2 or three in the later models and that they aren't the same -- that is it's a different part number depending on which sensor it is. There's a lot of conflicting info about this on this board.

Can Anyone tell me where to find out definitively what parts I need -- and more important -- where to get the best price?

A Ford service department should have no trouble looking up the manufacturer part number for you. Of course I wouldn't purchase it there though since it is likely double the cost elsewear. I don't have any recommendations on where to purchase it though since all of the local auto stores here have similar prices to each other.

You could send an email to Torrie at www.fordpartsnetwork.com and get Ford stock replacements for about $50 each. He'll also be able to tell you part numbers and how many of what type you will need. Great guy!

On a 96 the only difference between the two sensors is the length of the wire. Just get the longer one and you cant go wrong.
