Recently my 97 Exp has been shifting hard. But it is not a consistent condition. It happened Tuesday morning on the way to work (7miles). Then going home, nothing. Wednesday morning, nothing until almost at work. Wednesday night, nothing and nothing this morning.

Any ideas...i have checked the ATF and it full, and trans was serviced about 21,000 ago maybe less.

Thanks

What is the condition of the fluid?

Remember that a hard shift could also actually be a driveline phenomenon.

That is, if your slip yoke or u-joints are dry or worn, you can get something that feels like a bad transmission shift but is actually the driveline clunking.

There is a great article on the Thunderbird site (www.tccoa.com) with regards to the 4R70W trans. One of the engineers of the AODE/4R70W (Jerry) put this "bible" on that site. Its a must read for any 4R70W owner.

It sounds like a problem with the 1/2 accumulator valve or possible broken springs. If so, its an easy fix to change out.

You might want to post some questions on that site. The boys over there are quite knowledgeable about this trans.
