2002 explorer xlt 4.0
Hi,
On my 2002 explorer xlt when I have a full load (6-7 people) and I drive for at least 30 minutes I get a odd noise when I pull out. Its not a grinding, but more of a thumping. Once I get moving I don't hear it anymore. This happens when I turn either way or pull out straight. Once it cools down or I get rid of my passengers I hardly ever hear it.

I replaced both front wheel bearings at the same time (loose or were growling)

Rotors and pads were replaced.

I do have 170,000 miles on it.

Please tell me what are some things I could check ?

Thanks,

Rear Springs breaking are not an uncommon problem on these vehicles.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't state that, but I had the springs replaced because they were both broke. I had the 3rd gear band break in the transmission and replaced the 4x4 module ( all these repairs were because they broke, not to fix this noise that has been happening for about 3-4 years under load)

I am guessing its with the drive train just by the way it sounds when I pull out. When its only a few people in it I can't make it make the noise.

I don't know if the cv joints could act up only when a heavy load is on, or the transfer case, drive shaft, or anything else

U-joints, driveshaft..? That's my uneducated guess.
