I did a search for this, only came back with 4 results... Anyway, I'm having a bit of a problem with my steering. Its more of an annoyance, but the other day i did a powersteering flush with the return line off, used about 7 quarts of DEXIII, got out my mixture of powersteering fluid/atf which had turned milkshake greyish pink foam.... And now, when my vehicle reachs operating temperature and with the AC on that extra bit of heat seems to be doing something funky... I now have a dead zone of slop in the steering the wheel which will turn 1/8 turn in both directions with absolutely no movement transfered to the wheel. Its really annoying and on the highway i cant help but acknowledge that its making me look like im driving impaired...

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? In the morning when the truck is cold, it does not do it. If its cool out and the truck is up to operating temperature it will not do it, UNLESS i have the A/C on and ive been at a stop light for a couple minutes. It has to be something to do with heat saturation.

Im baffled, my tie rods are tight, inners and outers, i dont understand what could do this, other than perhaps the oil since that is the only thing changed since this issue arose????? Is that even possible???

It's a rack & pinion setup, don't see how it's even possible??

If there's play, there's play. If it's tight, it's tight.

Check the steering wheel linkage, u-joint ect. I think there was an issue with earlier s'ploders, not the 98's. But hey, ya never know.
