My 97 Exp has developed an odd habbit of not wanting to start. It cranks fine and the battery tests fine, but it wont always start. I have tried a few things I found searching the forums, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, IAC, connection of crank position sensor to name a few but no improvement.
I noticed the other day when it started on the second try a slight smell of something electrical getting too hot. (not the starter as I didn't crank long at all) Today it wouldn't start again and I just went out and tried it and after a couple of cranks something "popped" and it started.
I also noticed today that once it was running the daytime running lights were very dim, then the went bright, then dim, then off and then on...... When I turned on the headlights, they were normal brightness and stayed that way. I turned them off the and drl's were still doing funny things.
Any thoughts??? Given the smell and the prob. with the DRL's, I'm pretty sure it's an electrical issue.
Sorry for being so long winded.
