Hi everyone, this is my first post to the forum but not my first visit. I do have a problem though. I have a 1999 Explorer Sport 4X4 Automatic. I have noticed that the odometer isn't working but the speedo is. I'm not sure how long it has been this way. What does the speedo get its info from and shouldn't the odometer get info from the same? Does anybody have any ideas? I bought this new so I know it hasn't been tampered with. I now have 37000 mile and the last I checked it was around 35000 when I changed the oil. Thanks for the help!!

Scott

Ok, does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram on line.

Thanks

And you call this a good forum for Explorers. I get better service from non explorer forums. Thanks for NOTHING!! A simple reply would have been nice!

I assume that it is a mechanical odometer. The gears that turn the numbers could be stuck or just stopped working. I don't think the speedometer has much to do with how the odometer works, otherwise your speedometer would not be working either.

If it is a computerized odometer then there is a chance that there is a malfunction in your engine control unit.

Sorry I did not know the answer to your questions.

I look in my reference material and could not find an answer for you, sorry.

Your odometer gets it's input from the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) in the rear axle pumpkin. However, if you're speedometer is working and your odometer is not, it is probably a problem with the pyhsyical odometer. I'd just take it back to the dealer if you're still under warranty. And if you're not, rip it out and see what you see. You can get replacement clusters on eBay for very cheap.
