Before buying my Explorer, I had a 98 Tacoma that had an ashtray. As a non-smoker, it has little use for me but I always found it to be the best way to hold change in the car without sacrificing a cup holder. It took me a little while, but I found the part number and was surprised to see the Explorer’s factory ashtray has its own 12v power outlet for the lighter. I am considering picking up said accessory to add an additional 12v outlet and also having (finally) some good place to put my coins.

Now, my dumb, question, I can only find the ashtray in black. It matches the rubber mats in the center console, but it doesn’t match the plastic trim in the car (graphite in my case). Does the ashtray ONLY come in black? Also, if anybody could link or post some pictures of what it looks like installed that would be great too since I can’t find any online. Lastly, more about the coins, the ashtray in my Tacoma & m parents' Pilot was a pullout under the radio, but the Explorer’s sits down in the center console and flips open from the top. Would it be useful for putting coins in or am I better off using to keep using that not-quite-circular-cup-holder (which I have no idea what was originally for. The 98 Tacoma had one too and still no clue).

What's the part number?

It doesn't hold a lot of change, but you should have change slots inside your center console. As for the power plug, there is a write-up on the modified 3rd gen page that shows how to add in a usb port using the spare cigarette plug under the console.
