Hi,

I have just purchased a 2001 ford explorer sport 2WD. From where I come from we don't have 2WD SUV's only 4WD, and I was wondering if this 2WD has some kind of off-road capabilities. I do not intend to massive off-road though unpaved tracks and sand.

other tips regarding this car will be welcomed.

Thanks
Ron

A rear locker will improve the capabilities tremendously. Also for sand, an all terrain tire that has a wide footprint will aid in flotation.

rear locker.

I am new in the USA, how much should a rear locker supposed to cost? is it an automatic locker or manual?

Thanks
Ron

if you don't have a limited slip then look for aussie locker $250.00.
if you have a limited slip the powertrax($450) is your only way,but if you want to keep your axle you can find an open differential and install the aussie locker.

if you don't know if you have a limited slip look the sticker in your driver's door and if the axle and you must have one of the codes below:
Axle codes on the inside door panel:

41 - 3.27 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
45 - 3.55 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
46 - 3.73 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
42 - 4.10 non-limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D1 - 3.27 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D4 - 3.73 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer)
D2 - 4.10 limited slip (Explorer/Mountaineer

by the way the installation is pretty easy and the lockers are auto.
good luck

If you have an open diff i can sell you my aussie locker, its brand new and unopened. I didnt look at my door code and when i opened my diff it was too late toreturn the aussie locker.
