Hella 500's have removable bulbs, not sure if a 9006 would fit in them. If I remember right the hella bulb is a H1. You could probably make it work though....
Hella 500's are an H3 bulb. The 9006 bulbs are headlight style bulbs. The Explorers use a 9007 bulb for the headlights, not sure right now what vehicle uses 9006 but they are headlight bulb replacements. I do have the Hella 9007's that are labeled for "Off road use only". The difference is the stock 9007's are I believe 55 watt low beam / 65 watt high beam. The Hellas are 85 watt low beam / 100 watt high beam if I remember correctly.
Well, I dont know of any fog or driving lights that use a 9006 bulb.
You can get an H3 HID bulb(s) on ebay for around $40.
You will have to mod the lamp housing (cut out the back of it) to fit most HID bulbs into the lights.
You want a light that has the bulb in the horizontal orientation __ as opposed to the vertical orientation 1 as HID bulbs dont last if they are mounted vertical. Most all lights are horizontal.
There are a lot of different lights out there, will the 9006 Bulbs fit them, that is something you will need to research by going to the manufacturers on the web and see.
OR, if you like the look of a particular set of lights, you will need to get socket that fit the 9006 and mod the light housing to fit.
Then you have the lights you want and the bulbs you want...
And orient the bright spot of the HID bulb to the exact position of the halogen bulb in order to make the optics of the light work correctly. If the hot spot/filiment of the bulb are in different positions than what the light lens was designed for, the output/beam will be Crap.
We are talking millimeters here and IMO it cant be done.
Thats why they make different sized bulbs.....
