Oil Change Every 5k Miles? Input Needed...

Thanks for all of the input. My engine DOES make alot of noise during initial start-up... I didn't realize that could be because of a cheap oil filter... Also, when it's cold, it won't show oil pressure for upto 1 minute. My Ford ranger did this as well. Anyone else experience this? Is this due to the cheap filter? Thanks Again,

My dads 2000 xlt 4.0 SOHC explorer shoes no oil pressure at start up either and I been using Motorcraft oil filters.
