Oil Change "trick" or smart technique....

"In the olden days" people used to put bananas in the transmission to disguise the gear grinding sounds when it wears out. I wonder if bananas would quiet a noisy engine.....or even clean out the old gunk....it's worth a try methinks. A pound of bananas is about 50 cents......way less than an extra quart of oil.

hmmm.... I wonder if a small plantain will help my late shifting...help it slip into gear???

I love people who think out of the box......

That's just the bannana right? Not the skin? The skin is a bit stringy and could cause problems.

So in about 6 months this thread will resurface and some poor guy will be complaining that the bananna thing didn't work out for him? Odds?

You got it right...just the banana......the peels and strings have another purpose.....ever hear the song "Mellow Yellow"?

Nah- you've got to be thick to do something like that...

I've just read this thread because we bought a 2000 EB with 208k kms on it and we've no idea how it's been treated in the past... pretty poorly we're assuming, so I've bought enough oil and filters for 5 changes and I'm going to change the oil every 1k kms and then see how we're doing for deposits etc... hopefully it'll clear up all the crap that's in there and we can see how we go....

When you see these engines cracked open and the build up and sludge is horrible I guess the only way to get that off/out without opening the engine is to remove in the same fashion it was put on.....slowly and over time. Seems if you tried something too aggressive you could dislodge and block something critical. A steady supply of fresh clean high-detergent oil will eventually do the trick I guess. Your goal with the 5 successive oil changes.

Is there a safe(r) way to accelerate this process if needed? I don't think I would try anything too aggressive; not saying your 5 x 1K is aggressive, just thinking out loud.
