I use Mobile 1 high mileage 10W-30 with purolater PureOne filter with 98 EB 5V AWD. I also used cheap PRAM filter and that was fine. I only drive 5000 miles a year, so I change oil every 6 month.

PureOne is good if you don't keep it more than 6 months (any paper filter is in the same situation).
K&N is great for issues with lower oil pressure. Plus can last more than the 5000mi/6mo due to the synthetic media.
Bosch Distance Plus and Mobile1 are in the same group...
Oil? Go for any 5W30 synthetic oil - except the fake synth "G-Oil".

house brand 10w30 with a motorcraft filter and will change it at 5k miles. and speaking of the filter, what a b1tch to get off. or i have not learned the trick. i have the 5.0 engine.

I use a strap type filter wrench. Just a fabric loop on a piece of 1/2" square tubing. Use an extension to get below th oil pan. Punch a hole in the bottom of the filter to drain before removing.

Piece of cake compared to a 1994-1997 T-Bird or Cougar with the 4.6. It's even more fun when you have the Sport package or larger front sway bar.

gotcha, the filter draining is ok with me, as soon as i get it loose i just let it drain on its own. just getting it loose was *****, i need one of those strap wrenches just for this.

Not sure if the 95 Explorer is 10w30 or 5w30, but if it's 5w30 stick with that type of motor oil.

On my 04 explorer I followed a tip of using 10w30 instead of 5w30. With the 10w30 I can hear a light pinging and rattling on my engine on startup. So I switched back to 5w30 and all the sounds just disappeared. That's just my 2 cents.

Wix filter with 5w-30 motorcraft. With Walmart's standard bottled oil change its cheaper than just buyin the oil

i got a little noise also right after startup, next time ill go with a 5w30 and see if it continues. but then again, it just might be what a 166k mile 5.0 sounds like.

10W is thicker at start-up. It's always better to use 5W.

SInce I had leak at my rear main engine seal, I was suggested to use high mileage oil 10W-30 instead of 5W-30. I did the oil change back in March and so far so good. We will see how it will work in WInter with -20F in the morning.

The 10W is not the reason why leak stopped. The "high mileage" oil has swelling additives in it that helped the leaky seal. For now.

I used 10w-30 in my 99 4.0 OHV ranger only because my 5w-30 rattled. And for the leaks lol. But my 98 4.0 SOHC Explorer always gets 5w-30.

Now that I know napa is what I usually buy but rebranded, I will have to use that now lol.

I use motorcraft 5w20 semi synthetic and motorcraft filters. They are cheap and do the job.

I have used Castrol GTX High Mileage in 3 different cars for years. All of them 5w-30, which is what they all call for. I just started using Bosch Distance Plus oil filters so I can change them every other oil change (I change every 3k). The only filters I don't like are the orange fram, every other one would make a loud ticking noise on my wifes Cr-v until I changed brands. It seems that Walmart has the best price on the Castrol GTX High Mileage around here, the 5 quart jug was about $17.50 here ($29 for the 5qt. jug at Advance Auto) and Walmart actually carries the Bosch Distance Plus oil filters too for $12.
