I would recommend Mobil 1 and Amsoil. I have used both with excellent UOAs; I currently use Amsoil.

Good luck ....

I use Motorcraft FL-1A, does the job.

The Mobil 1 Filter is a pretty good one if you're willing to shell out for it. Other than that, the Motorcraft FL-1A is the best for normal driving, especially bang for the buck.

Napas oil filters are WIX filters. NAPA GOLD fuel filters work well. I work at an independent shop that is a napa auto care center and if its one good thing they have, its filters

Some filters have an internal check valve to help prevent any back flow, and maintain pressure. I know Hastings has this as well as other companies. I don't think the cheap filters will have this. You could tell by looking inside of it. It looks like a spring with a flat top.

I was doing a search for an internal diagram to show what the check valve looks like, and found this comparison chart:

This chart shows how much each filter could hold:

I know that everybody bad mouths Fram filters. From personal experience I have had no issues with them ever. My parents expo has had Fram filters and Castrol GTX every 5000ish miles and just recently switched to GTX High Mileage a year or so ago. The expo now is aproaching 175,000 miles and nothing has been done to the engine or has it had any issues. Other than the lower intake gaskets. Then there is my Dad's '85 honda, it is now coming up on 265,000 miles. It has always penzoil and fram filters from day one and it still runs like a top. So say what you want about Fram, they must be doing something right in order to have 2 vehicles whose mileage is close to 450,000 miles on them. They have worked for me and my parents and I will never badmouth them ever and I will continue to use them for as long as I keep my expo.

I don't think that there are really "bad" oil filters on the market. Some filters work better than others. For example, I install water filters (whole house, and under the sink models). Some cartridges fall apart after a few weeks, and others last for more than a year. They are all rated at 5 microns, yet some have gotten clogged after 5 days, and others have lasted for 13 months. I don't know if there is such a difference in oil filters, but then there is no way to know until you've tried them first hand.

Agreed, I think all filters work, but some last longer than others definately. Personally, for the $17 an oil change costs (5w30 oil + new filter), I simply change my oil every 3000 miles (5000km) or 3 months, whichever comes first. And if it's summertime and I'm 4x4ing a lot, I change it every month.

I bought the X with 127,500 miles and promptly switched it to full-synthetic oil after inspecting everything to see if there are any leaks. I performed my 3rd oil change on the X a couple days ago when it clicked over to 140,000 miles. So far, I haven't had any issues. For the first change, I used a Napa Silver... for the last two, I've used Motorcraft. My oil of choice is Mobil 1 5w-30.

You could see the valve in this picture. It says that it's a bypass valve, not a check valve:

The check valve in the pic is the non-return valve. A by-pass valve is for when your filter is so plugged that its better to have dirty oil than no oil at all flowing. By-passing the filter material in that case.

wow thx for all the info i think i will prolly go with full amsoil synthetics and filters since they seem to offer it all one stop shop for quality though i am sticking with my k&n air charger and not going with ams filtes
:)

I love Royal Purple Oil, it seems to give my vehicle the most hp and efficiency. I saw an in depth look at the Royal Purple factory on Horsepower TV and you would not believe the process and the stringent quality control. But who cares about that it made my vehicle run better, rev faster and it seemed like the engine was working less hard.

As far as oil filters, I love the Amsoil products- bought an air filter from Aldive and it is truly excellent in all respects.

I am going to try Baldwin Oil filters next as they have been rated the highest in filter test and are endorsed by commercial Machinery manufacturers & the aviation industry.

I can get a 4 pack on line for $12.49, prior to that I was using Wix with great results.
