oil gauge not rising when engine is cold

Yea...these sending units are on or off and once they get flaky, this seems to happen. I had the same problem in my 4.0 SOHC and it turned out to be the sending unit.

Found this thread. It seems that contacting ford to get a replacement for the Dummy gauge would be a wise idea. It should have been a standard but why on earth would Ford do that???
Keep in mind that this other link could be the worst conclusion short of a blown up motor!

Just one more thing on the list. Eventually the every day things list will be done and i can get to modding.

Hi everyone. Bought a used 2003 sport trac this early summer. Been an excellent vehical so far except for one thing that is now scaring me to death.
In the mornings The oil gauge remains does not move untill about 4-5 mins warm uptime or untill I slowly drive it about 1/2 mile. I did not have this problem during the hotter part of the summer but now that it is getting cold at nights it has started doing this. The check gauge light also comes on which is refering to the oil gauge. When the gauge does come on it does not rise slowly it just jumps right up there where it should be. SEnding unit, oil pump? Afraid to drive it with it doing this as I dont know if the oil is picking up or not. Any ideas?
Thanks
Mine does the same thing always has since i got it, sometimes it will go on and off a few times till the engine is warm, I dont have the problem as much in the summer since its already warm

oil gage/check gage

hi mates,
mine is doing the same thing now that the weather is getting cooler. I checked it out pretty well and all seemed OK, I removed the oil filter and had a friend start the engine while i looked underneath at the oil filter location, well it pumped out oil like a gushing well, So the pump is fine, The only thing it could be is the sender unit,Its not realy a pressure gage, its just a switch that reads on or off, when it reads on the gage goes to the middle of the hi / lo. So if you have 2 litres of oil it reads OK, If you have 6 litres of oil it reads exactly the same IE half way. Of corse you will have to have it replaced,I was quoted $70 at Super cheap autos and $32 at the local auto mechanic for a new sender and half an hour labour. Well the switch is so easy to get at labour should be about 5 minuts. Looking at the engine from the front you will see the sender on the bottom right (batery side)at the front of the engine , it has one wire connected to it, from memory its white. So dont pannic about driving if the gage is comming up, if after the usual time it dosent work then STOP straight away.
