oil in my radiator

Hey JD , got the brand new heads all ground and valved up etc.. Any hints and be-ware be-care stuff to watch out for installing the heads and the rest of the mess? .. looks like there are injectors or something electronic on each intake manifold, should they all be tested (how?) .. any special gasket sealant needed and where etc.. Oh and the haynes manual torque guide for the heads, should be cool to just follow directions eh?
Thanks for all the help y'all.. Turns out both heads where remans and who did the job ground them way to thin and they were both cracked up trash.. Any installation tips and tricks appreciated

no not yet they are still at the shop.ive changed my plans yet again,im getting a set of one piece stainless steel portflow valves made by SI(what im waiting on right now) and im having the lower and upper intake and heads all ported and polished.there is a ton to gain by porting the lower intake!!im also having the heads shaved so i will be just a little over 10:1(haven't got the final # yet) also ive added a 66mm throttle body and the 422 cam(thanks to james)head swap is pretty easy just follow the book the intake and the heads need to be torqued in sequence and all 4 corners get rtv where the intake meets the block/head.you shouldn't need any rtv on the intake if you use felpro gaskets.also always check the middle post on the heads where the rocker arm bolt, its an oil passage way and sometime is tapped to deep, should be found when you have the heads tested.i replaced my injectors from a guy on ebay he sell flow test and flow matched injector pretty cheap but if you didnt have a prob to begin with your prob all right.o yea make sure you use new head bolts also!!goodluck just ask if you need any help:salute:

OK JD thanks again,, I think I have a showstopper but wanted to ask ,, it looks like the new gasket kit has intake manifold gaskets one each for left / right etc.. the one that came off of there was all one piece.. I dont think I can get away with just putting the two separate ones on ther as there wont be a gasket where the intake man rests on the block in the middle both ends.. is my assumption correct? ,,, it would seem that I need the "valley pan" intake manifold gasket? damn I was really ready to get these heads on there ,, let me know if I can get away with using the iindividual gaskets /without a new valley pan style gasket???????????

i wouldnt it sounds like you got the wrong kit or they are the gaskets for the fuel rail that goes between the upper and lower intake

thanks ,, turns out the head kit doesnt come with the valley pan style intake gasket.. parts store had it in stock and the heads are on.. maybe it will even run when we get done :)

ok then goodluck let me know if i can help at all

Hey JD, you will like this.. its turning into a bloody nightmare. Put the heads on with the intake manifold everything was cool.. Putting on the rocker arm assembly, left side all cool ,, right side stage one of the torque down (ratng is 46-52) , first stage I was just going to 20 or so... The middle bolt stripped out the hole.. Looks like the manufacture screwed up the hole and put some kind of fix junk insert in there that could not take even 15 lbs of torque.. I know it wasnt me, but I am just SICK ,, looked at putting my own helicoil in there, but its brand new and its the center dang hole where the oil comes up etc etc,, if I drill that out and stick something in there, I dont know but I think that would void any kind of warranty.. So here we are 5 on Friday, machine shop is closed and sitting here with a new unusable head.. this sucks lol --- so to make a long question longer- the question to you is ,, do you think we can leave the left side head on there and just put the right head and the intake on together and it should work fine or do I have to take all the left side off again.???. And the head bolts do I really need to buy another set for the right side? I sure hope the new head company admits its not my fault I saved the 1/2 inch coil of threads that came out of there in one piece like a slinky.. We shall see Monday.. grrrrrrrrrrrrrr letr me know what you think on leaving tghe left side on there.. thanks again

oil in radiator

i have motor oil in my radiator i know its not a cracked head or else i would be burning water also and its not my intake i think that its my timing chain cover is corroded or i need a new gasket so yea any opinions?

Last time we had a cracked head and got oil in the water but no water in the oil and we didn't burn water (didn't have to refill it)..

Soo, it could be the head.

The oil pressure is much higher than the water pressure, especially when the engine is cold. Because of the greater pressure, if you have a leak between oil and water passages, the higher pressure oil wins out. Could be head, could be head gasket.

Pulling this one out of the cobwebs. JD, I just got the oil in radiator. Not pink, chocolate. Overflow bottle 1/4 full of oil, no milkshake. In radiator, top layer milkshake, middle motor oil, bottom antifreeze. This all on the tip of my pinky finger. Radiator a tad low, but not alarmingly. Engine oil about 1/2 quart low. With what I can"see" in the radiator, and the overflow bottle, there's my 1/2 quart. Bit of an oil puddle under rig, heavy to passenger side. Wife said smoke came only from passenger side of hood. Both wife and kid said the x did nothing abnormal until the smoke, and that was as she was parking anyways. Haven't run her since wife shut it off. I'm thinking head(s) and/or head gaskets. But, why the smoke and oil puddle? Regardless, I assume pulling the heads, again.

My questions to you:
I'm thinking about contacting the head company (I'll have to dig on eBay for that), or should I wait until I have the heads inspected?

Given the details above, would you still suspect heads/gaskets?

My gut's telling me not heads, only because of the puddle.

Again, I'm confused.

You've not only got a leak between oil and water, you've got an external leak of both as well. It gets on the hot exhaust and creates smoke. What drips down the block gets on the ground.

Clean everything using engine degreaser. Fill everything and have your wife start it. She should be prepared to shut down quickly. Look for the leak using a flashlight.

Could be a head gasket, head or (unfortunately) a cracked block.

Pulled the heads. Was really hoping for a couple blown hg but I'm not that lucky. Gonna get the heads mag tested. If good, it's the block. I've got another x that has a toasted auto, but the engine is good. Worst case I'll pull that engine out, clean it up, toss in a new oil pump and all new seals and gaskets and drop it in the one I'm working on now...in a dirt carport.
