Awesome site guys.. I have an older 94' Explorer XL 4x4, and I think it's losing oil. It started about a week ago, i checked the oil level, and it seemed low. I put about 1qt in it, checked again, well within range. After using the car (about a week later) to get to the store, on the way back my check engine light came on.. I went home immidiately, I checked many things, including engine oil level. Only a small line showed up on the dip stick, after a few tries. I put about 1/2qt into it today, and some shows up. I dont see anything left on the ground, and not an overly abundance on the ground or underneath. I'll get some pics soon. Any ideas guys?

Thanks, Justin

Does the engine smoke?Does the antifreeze look like it has any oil in it?

Find out what that check engine code was.

You probably already know this, but when you check your oil, it's best to do it when you have not driven the vehicle for a while. If you check your oil right after driving, the oil will have sloshed up all over the crankcase and you won't get a clear reading on the dipstick.

Look on the engine for signs of a leak. It will leak around the valve cover gaskets, front seal, rear seal or oil pan. Also check and if necessary replace the PCV valve.

Check the oil preasure sending unit. I once had one that would pour out of the wire connection area.
