For anyone that has replaced oil lifters, can you share your information about where you got the lifters from, what process you used, what problems or special considerations you encountered, and what research you did prior.

Thanks in advance.

I have not done that job in many years, but be careful pulling them out. I still have a scar from one that was stuck, I used vice grips and when it came out all at once cut myself on the inside edge of the head.

If you are planning to keep it for a lot longer you should replace all of the lifters and the cam at the same time.

Do you mean "hydraulic valve lifters" or "oil filters?"

Didn't know there was a difference. Could you enlighten me?

I think Joe (above) interpreted your original post as referring to "hydraulic valve lifters" which are the parts of the valvetrain that are in contact with the camshaft lobe. The pushrod fits into the top of the lifter and pushes the rocker arm up, which being mounted on a shaft, pivots downward, opening the intake or exhaust valve.

The term "hydraulic valve lifter" refers to the type of lifter, which uses engine oil to automatically adjust for valvetrain wear. A solid or mechanical lifter cannot automatically adjust itself and therefore requires periodic maintenance adjustments.

Obviously, an oil filter is what filters the engine's oil.

The reason I asked for a clarification is because "filter" and "lifter" use all the same letters and are somewhat common typographical mix-ups. It is not common to refer to a lifter as an "oil" lifter, so I just wanted to know what you meant.

:)
