Oil pressure dummy gauge drops to 0 at Idle when warm

I mentioned that for anyone else who would read the viscosity subject and want to jump in saying people can't or shouldn't do that.

Well Im no experienced shop mechanic by any means but I would assume it really is just a band aid when using the thicker oil to cover up engine noise. But with the mileage on this vehicle and my wallet being a bit tight these days Im OK with going with the thicker oil. I have read somewhere that the thicker oil can actually have a reverse effect but I dont know too much about that to comment. Im not too worried...OR SHOULD I BE? Thats what drives me crazy in mechanics is that you hear so many sides of the story, it can get confusing on what to believe.

When the damage is done (larger gaps in oil flow path due to bearings wear), there are only two solutions:
- rebuild the engine.
- Band-Aid the issue with thicker oil and extend the life for a while. This allows to save money for the rebuild. 5W40 or 5W50 allow for decent cold starts too.

Well its been about 2 months and the chain rattle along with the oil pressure gauge drop off is starting again. I actually went with a heavier oil and added some lucas oil additive and that helped... until now.

As far as a rebuild. What parts usually fail? Crankshaft bearings? Camshaft bearings? Anything else it could be?

It's hotter outside. I use now 5W-50 with some lucas in summer and 5W-50 straight or 5W-40 with lucas in winter.

IMO camshaft bearings are the first to go. When the crankshaft bearings are done, is too late to repair the engine.
I would look into a crate engine, it might be cheaper that rebuilding it (unless you can do it yourself).

Any ideas who sells a decent crate?

I had looked for me (google, emails) and I found a shop (relatively close to me) that seems decent, with a good warranty - 5 Year Unlimited Mileage. They ship anywhere for free.
I don't want to look like I advertise for them, so take it as such:
