Wondering if anyone could help me? What causes a factory oil pressure gauge to read on "H" on a 95 Ford Explorer.

It runs fine, but causes check engine light to come on.

Have you pulled the code to see what is actually causing the check engine light to be on?

The gauge could be reading high due to a blockage in the oil system, or it could be a bad sender or shorted wires. The factory gauge is really an idiot light with a needle, so it's not going to give accurate pressure information.

usually high oil pressure is a blockage in the galleys, or in worst-case scenario, a spun bearing. That it operates fine in spite of your 'gauge,' indicates that it may lie in the wiring.

Just an update.........my explorer was the oil sending unit. Once I replaced it, it is reading fine. Wanted to leave a post, just in case anyone else runs across the same problem:)

just remember that the gauge is an idiot light, if pressure drops below 7 psi than it moves.

otherwise it just stays in one place.
