02 Explorer XLS
Hey all, I have an '02 Explorer XLS with the 4.0 SOHC. About 2 months ago we started hearing the timing chains rattle and before we did the swap, sheared the jack shaft bolt. Took the engine out, replaced the drivers head and all timing chains/gears/tensioners. While the moter was on the stand flushed it out to clean out any debris (has 185,000 on the clock). Now when we start it, i get good oil pressure for about 5 minutes before she drops and the lifters start ticking. Shut the motor off and restart, same thing happens. Good for about 5 minutes and then nothing. Thinking I may have harmed the oil pump when flushing the motor but want to be sure before we pull the motor again. Any thoughts?:banghead:

This may not work for you but change your oil filter if you havent and see if thet solves your problem. I once rebuilt the engine in my mustang and when I started it up had great oil pressure for a couple minutes and it would drop off to near nothing. I pulled the pan off and change oil pump thinking I got a bad one fired it back up and samething happend with oil pressure. Finally a friend said change the filter and I did and problem solved. That was the last time I have ever ran a fram filter. Its worth a shot. Good Luck.
