2015 Explorer XLT
Greetings!

I have owned a 2015 Explorer XLT since bought new in late 2014. The car has been trouble-free its entire life and now has 79,000 miles on it. It is serviced regularly and in fact, just had a dealer service done on it a few weeks ago.

This afternoon, I was backing down a steep driveway onto a road and when applying the brakes before shifting into "Drive", the engine stalled, the warning chime sounded and the text "Low Oil Pressure" came up on the info display.

I put it in "Park", got out an checked the oil level which was fine (and the oil was clean, having only been changed a few weeks prior and the car is not driven a great deal). I restarted the engine with no problem, the warning did not come back on and the car drove fine back to my house. After letting it sit for a while I restarted it and there were no oil pressure warnings. Idle seems fine and no other descernible issues were observed.

This has never occurred, I plan on calling the dealership on Monday (this happened on a Sunday when they are closed), but I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else and if it might be a glitch with the sensor, perhaps because the car was on a steep incline when it occurred?

Any insight would be appreciated.

How much fuel is/was there in the tank? The oil pressure light probably came ON because the engine died. In the 6th gen, the fuel pump is at the front of the tank. There have been several reports of members being unable to start the car because of the driveway incline. The solution is to park nose down or don't let the fuel level get too low. I haven't heard of it being an issue with the 5th gen Explorer but you may have had just enough fuel in the line to start up but not to keep running.

Tank was almost completely full... only had 50 miles since the last fill up ealier in the week, and the car had been running previously... I had pulled into the driveway to drop someone off... they got out, shifted to reverse, got to the bottom of the driveway where it met the roadway and then the stall and oil pressure warning...

Thank you. I still think the warning was due to the engine stalling. Hopefully all will be well from here on.
