I HAVE A 91 EXPLORER 4.0 V6 AND ABOUT A MONTH AGO THE OIL PRESURE GUAGE MOVED FROM THE (M) IN (NORMAL) TO THE (R)AND BACK TO THE (M) THE NEXT DAY. SINCE THEN I ALSO CLEANED THE TROTTLEBODY AND MAF SENSOR. CHANGED THE THERMOSTAT (JET 180),OIL(ROYAL PURPLE SYNTECH),FILTER (MOBIL ONE) PLUGS(BOCH PLAT 4), AND WIRES, FLOWMASTER 40 WITH NEW 2 1/2 PIPES AND ADDED A K&N FILTER CHARGER, TO THE TRUCK. ORDERED BORLA HEADERS ON 12/10/99.

PROBLEM:

WELL TODAY THE IT WENT FORM (M) IN (NORMAL) TO ALMOST TO THE (O)...PARKED THE TRUCK AND REPLACED THE OIL PRESURE SENDING UNIT OR SENSOR.. STILLING HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM BUT THIS TIME ITS MOVING TO THE (R) FROM THE (M). THERE IS NO KNOCKING SOUND FROM THE LIFTERS OR LOST OF POWER..

Isn't that a "dummy" guage in there? I know that ford started putting dummy guages in their trucks because too many people were complaining about a fluxuating guage when this was normal. I think the only way it will work if there is absolutely no pressure. Just what i heard, hope this helps. Matt

The oil pressure gauge sender is just a switch. It doen't vary with oil pressure like other brands of cars. It just switches if their is pressure. Try taking the single wire that comes of the oil sender and ground it. The gauge needle should go back the normal postion which is usually by the "R or M" in normal. If it does then change your oil pressure sender.... The only way to correctly check oil pressure is with a manual oil pressure gauge.
